Frequently Asked Questions
Why Tan Indoors?
There are numerous advantages to utilizing a tanning salon and especially at Bronze Planet. One advantage is that you can control the amount of ultraviolet light that you are exposed to. This control will help you to avoid sunburn and the resulting damage to your skin. At Bronze Planet your tanning session is determined by the equipment manufacturers recommendation as well as our highly trained tanning consultants. Your tanning history and skin typed is all factored into giving you the results you desire.
Convenience is another consideration. Outdoor tanning is often limited by season, location and weather. Indoor tanning at a tanning salon offers you a dependable, comfortable and smart way to tan.
The revolutionary High Pressure tanning systems, of which Bronze Planet has two, dramatically reduce the amount of UVB rays which are the rays considered to be the damaging, wrinkle causing rays. They allow for an amazing tan that lasts longer, is darker and much less UVB than the sun.
What is High Pressure Tanning?
High-pressure sunbeds use only Quartz lamps to deliver results. High-pressure means there is more UVA and higher air pressure in the bulb (300 to 2, 2000 Watts) it has nothing to do with what you feel when tannning. These lamps have a much lower content of UVB, thus reducing the risks of burning and allowing your skin to maintain a normal exfoliation process. Therefore results by high pressure tans last much longer, appear darker and are less damaging!
HIGH PRESSURE sunbeds virtually tan with only UVA light, our body is allowed to return to its normal 29-day exfoliation cycle. High-pressure tanning also tans the second and third layers of skin. So even when your outer layer of skin exfoliates, the layers of skin beneath it are still tan.
Finally, UVA light does not cause the outer layer of skin to thicken, so tanning on our High Pressure sunbeds will not contribute to fine-line wrinkles/premature aging. High pressure tanning is the most advanced way to tan. UVB rays are responsible for burning. Our High Pressure sunbeds filter out most UVB rays.
What is the difference between high pressure and low pressure? Low-pressure beds are characterized by having higher levels of UVB whereas high-pressure beds have increased levels of UVA and lower levels of UVB. Higher levels of UVA allow the tan to last longer and reduce the risk of UVB burning.
Natural sunlight varies during the day from low UVB in the early morning to high UVB in the mid day sun. Low pressure tanning has the sunburn potential of the midday sun and the sun tanning potential of the early morning sun. High pressure offers the tanning potential of the mid-day sun and the burning potential of the early morning sun.
How do Tanning Beds Work?
Tanning beds are designed to mimic the sun. The sun emits three kinds of UV rays that make you tan, UV-C, UV-A and UV-B. Today's sophisticated tanning lamps filter out the UV-C rays as these short waves are harmful to your skin. UV-B, the middle length waves, begins the tanning process, by stimulating the melanocyte cells that produce melanin. Melanin will be bronzed by the longest wave length, UV-A. The UV-A oxidizes the melanin and produces the tan. Our advanced tanning lamps use the best ratio of UV-B and UV-A light to provide the greatest tanning results, with a lowered risk of overexposure.
How Fast will I Tan?
Everyone tans at a different rate. Typically begining tanners will see results after their very first tan. However, it can take between 4-6 sessions to achieve a base tan for certain skin types. We recommend begining tanners tan once every 48 hours until a base tan is achieved. After a base tan is achieved, 1-2 sessions per week on a entry level bed or 1-2 per month on a High Presure bed is typically all that is requird to maintain your base.
Your tan will be greatly enhanced if you use one of our quality indoor tanning accelerators and after tan moisturizers. You will tan faster, darker and keep your tan longer if your skin is conditioned properly.
What Should I Wear?
You can tan in whatever you wish. You can choose a swimsuit, underwear or you may prefer to be semi-nude or nude. You will be in a completely private room while tanning - unlike sunbathing at a beach or pool. You want to be sure to gradually expose your sensitive areas to avoid overexposure. You are only required to wear eyewear to protect your vision and potential damage to your eyes. Closing your eyes will not protect them.
Do I Have To Wear Eyewear?
Eyewear protection is required by law. Your eyelids are not enough to provide protection. Using approved eyewear will protect your eyes from ill effects such as reduced color vision or night blindness.
Should I Use an Upgrade Machine?
Our upgrade beds are designed to take you to the next level of tanning. They have much more intense lamps that offer different mixes of UV-A and UV-B to tailor the best beds to your skin type. Upgrades will save you time, allow you keep your tan longer and achieve a darker tan. You can even choose a low UV-B bed to limit the damaging rays and achieve the ultimate tan.
Should I Use SPF on My Lips?
Yes! Your lips can not tan. Protect them with an SPF lipbalm.
Tattoos, Should I USE and SPF?
Yes! Tatoos will fade from exposure to UV rays either outdoors or indoors. You should use an SPF stick on your tattoo. Many tanners use their Lip Service SPF on their tattoo's. Do not use SPF lotion.
